ENJOYING HISTORY AND OYSTERS WHILE AT DEVON

Located on a hip city street much like Fells Point, Baltimore.
The restaurant has approx 150 oyster plated displayed. The rest of the family's approx 500 collection is told to be distributed among family members.

Two of my favorite plates, both very rare and valuable. Marta is holding a Union Porcelain and I am holding Minton Majolica.
While competing at Dressage at Devon Breed Show 2010, we were able to slip into Philadelphia for a great dinner out. Chuck and I have been wanting to go to this particular restaurant, known for their oyster plate collection, for years. Located in Center City, Philly, The Sansom St. Oyster House has been in operation since 1901. Starting as a typical oyster bar, the place has undergone many renovations over the last century and is 3rd generation Mink Family owned. The Mink Family is believed to have one of the largest oyster plate collections (approx 500 plates) on the East Coast. Chuck and I are collector's, too, of these antique plates. After 10 years of collecting, we have approx 200 plates displayed on our dining room walls. With no wall room left, we intend to carefully start storing all additional plates in our attic. I suspect in another 10 years or sooner, we will have as many as the Mink Family.
